This article provides comprehensive information regarding the Delhi Atal Aahar Yojana.
Delhi Atal Aahar Yojana 2026
Under the municipal corporation’s strategy, citizens will receive a meal thali at a subsidized price of Rs. 15. While the South Delhi Municipal Corporation initially operated 5 food stalls, current reports indicate that approximately 40 kiosks will be set up across various locations in South Delhi.
Launch of Mobile Kitchen Kiosks
The Atal Aahar Yojana focuses on helping low-income individuals who often struggle with financial limitations and are forced to consume unhygienic street food that endangers their health. The proposal outlines that 10 kiosks equipped with mobile kitchen units will be stationed in each of the four zones. The standing committee has also indicated that the number of kiosks may be adjusted based on local demand.
Breakfast is capped at Rs. 10, while lunch is priced at Rs. 15. The food selection includes items like puri and stuffed paratha for breakfast, and rice, lentils (dal), raita, and roti for lunch. Authorities have specified that no seating will be provided at these stalls to ensure pedestrian pathways remain clear. Outlets will serve breakfast from 8 am to 11 am and lunch from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Atal Jan Aahar Yojana - Rs. 10 Meal History (Update: 27 December 2017)
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) previously launched the Atal Jan Aahar Yojana to assist the underprivileged. This initiative allowed those from economically weaker sections to purchase lunch for just Rs. 10 at civic body stalls. The Delhi government introduced this phased scheme to ensure the needy have access to nutritious food.
Initially, the government rolled out the program at 5 sites across South Delhi. Residents could access these meals between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Launched on the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the scheme fulfilled a key campaign promise. It was designed to support a wide range of individuals, including corporate workers, laborers, auto-rickshaw drivers, and anyone in need of a meal.
Customers can purchase meals from the civic stalls, which feature the following food items:
- Puri
- Rice
- Vegetables
- Halwa
- Chapattis
- Rajma
- Chhole
SDMC aims to provide these affordable, subsidized meals to all community segments, with a strong focus on maintaining high food quality standards.
Implementation of Atal Jan Aahar Yojana
The Atal Jan Aahar Yojana was inaugurated during Good Governance Day, coinciding with the birthday of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The SDMC is implementing the project in stages, with plans to expand to more locations and potentially include dinner service in the future. Additionally, the NDMC has initiated a similar pilot project in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi.
