The Himachal Pradesh administration has introduced the Atal School Vardi Yojana to support pupils enrolled in state-operated institutions. Through this complimentary uniform initiative, every student from grade 1 to 12 is eligible to receive free sets of clothing. These uniforms have been distributed for the academic years ranging from 2018-19 through 2022-23. During the 2018-19 period of the Atal Vardi Yojana, over 830,945 students across grades 1-12 were provided with two sets of uniforms, supported by a budget of Rs. 73.5 crore.
Under the guidelines of the Atal Vardi Yojana, students entering classes 1, 6, and 9 also receive school bags in addition to their two annual uniform sets. This program plays a vital role in boosting the morale of children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The initiative was titled after the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, honoring his deep affection for the residents of the hill regions.
HP Free School Uniform Scheme - Atal School Vardi Yojana 2026
The government of Himachal Pradesh has successfully managed the procurement and distribution of school uniforms for students in grades 1 through 12 via the Atal School Vardi Yojana. These supplies were provided to state school students for the academic sessions between 2018 and 2023, facilitated by the Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation.
Progress of Atal Vardi Yojna Till August 2020
As previously noted, approximately 8.3 lakh students in grades 1-12 were issued two sets of free uniforms valued at Rs. 73.5 crore during the 2018-19 cycle. Furthermore, nearly 2.5 lakh students in grades 1, 6, and 9 were provided with school bags costing Rs. 7.84 crore. The mandate to roll out the HP Atal Vardi Yojana was finalized during a cabinet session in Dharamshala, led by former CM Jai Ram Thakur. The primary objective is to foster equality within classrooms by ensuring all students wear identical uniforms, regardless of their financial background.
Additionally, the state government established the CM's Helpline Number (Mukhyamantri Seva Sankalp Helpline No.) to actively engage with the public and offer support through a dedicated call center. This initiative promotes a transparent and responsible governance structure where duties are clearly assigned to every participant. Furthermore, it offers residents a centralized platform for inquiries, requests, feedback, and complaints.
