Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel initiated the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan to address the critical issues of malnutrition and anaemia. Through this state-led nutrition program, the government supplies wholesome meals to mothers and young children. To mark the official commencement, the CM distributed nutritious peanut and jaggery "laddus" to children. The mission was launched statewide on October 2, 2019, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Malnutrition remains a significant hurdle for both Chhattisgarh and the nation at large. Despite an increase in per capita income over the last 18 years, economic disparities have persisted, leaving approximately 37% of the state's population malnourished. On June 15, 2020, the Chhattisgarh government reported a 13.97% reduction in the number of malnourished children under the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Yojana.
Addressing this as a priority, the CM introduced the "Suposhit Dantewada" project and the "Harik Naani Bera" initiative in the Bastar district as primary efforts to eliminate malnutrition.
CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2026 - Overview
To implement a comprehensive state-level strategy against malnutrition, the government launched the CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan. Key highlights of the initiative include:
- Children and mothers receive daily nutritious meals. The program targets children aged 0 to 5 and girls/women aged 15 to 49.
- The state provides supplementary nutrition, including eggs, jaggery, and groundnut laddus, twice a week to combat malnutrition and anaemia.
- The "Harik Naani Bera" pilot in Bastar, which served 70,000 children and 9,000 mothers, has now been scaled up across the state.
- The Department of Women and Child Welfare oversees the mission, focusing on local food sources, iron supplements, and deworming medication.
- Free nutritious meals are provided daily, with beneficiaries identified by local gram panchayats.
- The program utilizes District Mineral Funds (DMF) to supply fruits, milk, poultry, soy, and other varied food items.
- The initiative encourages collaboration between government bodies, NGOs, and local administration to distribute food through Anganwadis and schools.
- The Public Distribution System (PDS) has been optimized to provide essential staples like rice, sugar, salt, and pulses, supported by community involvement.

A massive, state-wide nutrition campaign was inaugurated on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to achieve a malnutrition-free Chhattisgarh.
