The Delhi Free Laptop Program was inaugurated by former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on April 22, 2022. The Deputy CM introduced the Delhi Free Laptop Initiative by providing laptops to more than 5,000 students with special needs enrolled in government-run schools. This guide outlines the comprehensive details regarding the Delhi Free Laptop Program.

Understanding the Delhi Free Laptop Program 2026

On a Friday, the Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia distributed laptops and various educational resources to over 5,000 children with special requirements attending local government schools.

This laptop distribution effort was organized under the Talent Promotion Policy of the Delhi administration, which provides tailored support, equipment, and educational tools to students with special needs. The Delhi Free Laptop Program serves students across 21 disability categories, aiming to boost their academic performance and overall productivity.

To assist Children with Special Needs (CWSN) in government schools, Sisodia handed out laptops, tablets, sports gear, and teaching equipment to 5,322 students from grades 8 to 12. These devices come equipped with specialized educational software designed to simplify and improve the digital learning experience.

How to Register for the Delhi Laptop Program

This initiative was specifically created to encourage and support students with disabilities enrolled in Delhi's public school system.

There is no digital application portal for this laptop distribution; however, eligible students should consult their school principal or administrative staff to learn about the enrollment process.

What defines a student with special needs?

A student with special needs is someone whose disability requires specific modifications to their educational environment. This definition includes various conditions, such as physical, sensory, developmental, or intellectual impairments, as well as specific learning difficulties.

To aid these learners, education departments across India, including Delhi, implement accessible infrastructure, assistive technologies, welfare policies, and customized teaching methods to ensure every student has equal educational opportunities.

Delhi Free Laptop Program - Status Update

Currently, the laptop distribution program in Delhi is inactive. The government may reintroduce the scheme in the upcoming academic session.

Objective of the Delhi Laptop Assistance

The Deputy CM stated, "Students with special needs have a strong desire to learn, yet they frequently encounter obstacles that impede their growth and social integration. The Talent Promotion Scheme is a dedicated effort by the Kejriwal administration to support these students and help them reach their full potential."

According to the minister, this initiative is designed to help disabled students improve their quality of life. As these students strive to learn, the government considers it a priority to provide them with necessary resources.

Sisodia emphasized, "Students with disabilities should never feel excluded. It is Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s vision that where nature has limited opportunities for an individual, the government must step in to provide an equal platform. We are committed to fulfilling this vision."

Alongside the equipment distribution, an exhibition was held to showcase the artistic, vocational, and business-related skills developed by these students in government schools.
