This policy, which was initially introduced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on October 2, 2021, aims to support students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as those from SC, ST, and OBC communities.

Understanding the UP Free Education Scheme 2026 for Girls
During the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on October 2, 2021, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a scholarship distribution benefiting over 1.5 lakh students, alongside the launch of a free education program for girls pursuing graduation. By late November 2021, scholarship funds were scheduled for direct transfer to student accounts to facilitate uninterrupted learning. Under this policy, the state covers education costs for girls; however, in households with two daughters, the benefit is limited to one student.
The government is actively engaging with parents to emphasize the vital importance of schooling and is prepared to enforce strict measures against those who prevent their children from attending classes.
Fee Waivers for One Female Student per Household
The Chief Minister has directed the education department to implement a fee waiver for one female student in families where multiple daughters are enrolled in the same institution. "For private schools and colleges where two or more sisters are currently studying, we are mandating that the institution waive the tuition fees for one of them. This measure is intended to provide financial relief to families during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic."
