On November 22, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, virtually inaugurated the Har Ghar Nal Yojana 2026. This initiative, part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, is designed to ensure consistent water access for all homes while promoting the conservation of water resources. The central government aimed to connect every household to a water supply by the 2024 fiscal year. Initially launched in two districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojana is set to provide clean water to approximately 4.1 million villagers across Mirzapur and Sonbhadra, under the guidance of the Yogi Adityanath administration.
Har Ghar Nal Yojana 2026
Water scarcity remains a critical challenge in India, affecting an increasing number of families who struggle with severe shortages. To address this, the NDA government led by PM Modi is prioritizing the installation of tap connections in every home. The two districts initially selected for this scheme have faced chronic difficulties in accessing safe drinking water for many years, and this mission seeks to provide a permanent solution.
Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojana in UP
Under the national Har Ghar Nal Se Jal initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government is establishing piped drinking water systems for 1,606 villages in the Mirzapur area. This project is expected to benefit over 2.18 million residents directly. Water sourced from the local dam will undergo purification to make it safe for consumption, with a total budget allocation of Rs. 2,343.20 crore for Mirzapur.
In Sonbhadra, the scheme will cover 1,389 villages, providing water connectivity to approximately 1.95 million families. By purifying water from local rivers and lakes, the government aims to fulfill the region's drinking water needs, backed by an investment of Rs. 3,212.38 crore.
Collectively, the initiative will support over 4.14 million families across these two districts, with a total financial commitment of Rs. 5,555.38 crore. Official reports indicate that the water supply network in these villages will be fully operational within a two-year timeframe.
Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Scheme Across Entire Nation
The newly established Jal Shakti Ministry, which integrates the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, is spearheading this effort. Through the Har Ghar Nal Yojana, the central government is working to ensure that every family has access to piped water by the end of the 2024 fiscal year.
