The Punjab government has introduced the Kisan Credit Limit Scheme 2026 specifically for livestock breeders (Pashu Palaks). Through this initiative, animal rearers can now obtain Kisan Credit Limits, similar to the facility available to crop farmers. Under this program, each cattle-breeding family is eligible for a credit limit of Rs. 3 lakh at a 4% interest rate. This scheme is designed to provide significant relief to small-scale and landless livestock farmers. Notably, loans up to Rs. 1.6 lakh can now be accessed without the need for land as collateral.
The Punjab Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Dairy Development announced that state livestock breeders are now eligible to access Kisan Credit Limits. The primary goal of this initiative is to encourage the growth of the animal husbandry sector. Modeled after the existing credit system for agriculture, this new mechanism provides affordable bank credit to ensure ease of operations for livestock owners across the state.
This Punjab Kisan Credit Limit Scheme allows breeders to manage routine costs related to animal feed, veterinary medicine, water, and power utility bills. Each breeder has the flexibility to set a credit limit that suits their specific needs. The primary requirement for eligibility is the active ownership of livestock or animals.
Pashu Kisan Credit Limit Scheme 2026
The Punjab state government has launched the 2026 Kisan Credit Limit Scheme for livestock owners. Breeders can now establish bank credit limits based on their own requirements, mirroring the process used by agricultural farmers. This promotion scheme aims to modernize support for animal husbandry. By providing low-interest credit, the government helps breeders cover essential operational expenses like feed, medicine, and utilities. Specific credit limits have been established for different types of livestock as follows:
- Buffalo & High-Breed Cow (भैंस और विलायती गाय) - Rs. 61,467
- Local Breed Cow (देसी गाय) - Rs. 43,018
- Sheep, Goat (भेड़-बकरी) - Rs. 2,032
- Female Pig (मादा सुअर) - Rs. 8,169
- Broiler (ब्रायलर) - Rs. 161
- Egg-Laying Hen (अंडे देने वाली मुर्गी) - Rs. 630
Collateral-Free Loans for Livestock Farmers
Under this scheme, livestock-rearing families can access up to Rs. 3 lakh at a competitive 4% interest rate. This initiative primarily targets small and landless farmers. Notably, loans up to Rs. 1.6 lakh do not require land or other assets as security. Ownership of animals remains the only prerequisite to qualify for these concessional credit facilities.
Execution of the Animal Husbandry Promotion Scheme
The state government is committed to raising widespread awareness about the Punjab Kisan Credit Limit Scheme. This outreach ensures that farmers engaged in allied sectors can fully utilize the benefits of this animal husbandry promotion initiative. Relevant banks and district officials within the Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Dairy Development departments have been fully briefed on the program's operations.
Breeders can withdraw the sanctioned credit limit as needed. Funds can be accessed at regular intervals using a card issued specifically to the beneficiary. Furthermore, livestock farmers have the flexibility to repay the full balance at any time during the year and renew their credit limit, similar to the standard Kisan Credit Card structure. Banks will not charge any processing fees for establishing these credit limits.
