The Jammu & Kashmir Administration has introduced the Muhafiz (Guardian) Initiative designed for laborers in the unorganized sector. This J&K Muhafiz program aims to offer socio-economic protection to workers. Through this scheme, the government intends to support approximately 3 lakh individuals currently enrolled with the "J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB)." Eligible participants will receive coverage for accidental incidents, life insurance, and disability protection.
Overview of the Jammu and Kashmir Muhafiz Program 2026
- Natural Death Support - A benefit of Rs. 2,00,000 provided to the nominee or legal dependents of a registered worker in the event of natural death.
- Accidental Death Support - A benefit of Rs. 4,00,000 provided to the nominee or legal dependents of a registered BOC worker in the event of accidental death.
- Partial Permanent Disability - A payout of Rs. 1,00,000 to registered BOC workers who suffer from partial permanent disability.
- Permanent Disability - A payout of Rs. 2,00,000 to registered BOC workers who suffer from permanent disability.
- Educational Assistance - A grant of Rs. 1,200 annually per child (for up to 2 children) for students in classes 9th to 12th, provided via the National Scholarship.
- Smart ID & Credit - Access to a micro-credit facility of Rs. 10,000 paired with a specialized Micro Credit ATM-enabled Smart Identity Card.
The J&K government officially initiated the Muhafiz program on January 8, 2018. Workers in the unorganized sector are required to complete their registration via online or designated offline channels. This initiative is particularly helpful for laborers residing in rural areas.
