The Odisha Balaram Yojana was formally approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary A.K. Tripathy on July 2, 2020. Landless farmers who previously lacked access to formal agricultural credit will now be able to secure loans through Joint Liability Groups (JLGs). These loans serve as social collateral for those without land titles.

This initiative was developed in partnership with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Furthermore, local agricultural workers will manage the distribution of these credits at the grassroots level.
