The Odisha administration has introduced the Mukta Scheme 2026, also known as the Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan, to create job opportunities for the urban impoverished. The Odisha Mukta Yojana is a program designed to provide work within city limits. The government intends to transform the wage employment initiative started during the Covid-19 lockdowns into a permanent, comprehensive scheme. This article outlines the essential details regarding the Odisha Mukta Yojana.
Odisha Mukta Scheme 2026
The Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan, or Mukta Yojana, aims to provide sustainable livelihood options to approximately 4.5 lakh low-income urban households. This scheme builds upon the success of the Urban Wage Employment initiative launched in April during the pandemic. That program supported the informal labor force across 114 urban local bodies, with Rs. 100 crore allocated for labor-intensive projects to offer immediate employment to the urban poor.
According to the urban development department, over 6,000 projects were finished in the last nine months under the previous initiative. This effort saw an expenditure of Rs. 70 crores and generated 13 lakh person-days of work. With 3.5 lakh participants—40% of whom were women—the department is now upgrading this into the full-scale Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan.
Activities under Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan (Mukta)
The Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan (Mukta) will encompass several key activities, including:
- Stormwater drainage maintenance
- Rainwater harvesting projects
- Expansion of green areas
- Sanitation services
- Development of community hubs
- Beautification around water bodies
This new Mukta Scheme serves as an urban version of the NREGA, fully funded by the state government's own budget.
