Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Enterprises Scheme 2026: The Central government introduced the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Enterprises (PM FME) Scheme on June 29, 2020. This Rs. 10,000 crore initiative is a key component of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. The PM FME scheme is slated to run for five years, covering the period up to 2024-25. It aims to drive Rs. 35,000 crore in investments and create roughly 9 lakh skilled and semi-skilled employment opportunities. Approximately 8 lakh units are expected to benefit through improved access to information, professional training, better market exposure, and formal registration. The official guidelines were published at the scheme's inauguration.
The PM FME program focuses on introducing modern technology and providing accessible credit to help small-scale entrepreneurs reach new markets. Under this scheme, micro-enterprises are eligible for a 35% subsidy on project costs, capped at Rs. 10 lakh. Beneficiaries are required to fund at least 10% of the total project cost, with the remaining balance covered by loans. Nearly 200,000 micro-enterprises will receive credit-linked subsidy assistance.
Local food processing units play a vital role, as rural entrepreneurs have a long-standing tradition of providing traditional Indian food products to their local communities. The Union government is prioritizing the reduction of food wastage, boosting farmer income, encouraging investment in the food processing industry, and generating new jobs.
