The PM-KUSUM Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) stands as a premier solar energy initiative for the agricultural sector, administered by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. This program provides farmers with a subsidy of up to 50% for installing solar pumps and power plants, effectively reducing irrigation expenditures and creating an opportunity for extra revenue by feeding excess electricity back into the power grid.

Significant Update for 2026 - The MNRE has formally pushed the PM-KUSUM implementation deadline to March 31, 2027, specifically for projects with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) finalized by December 31, 2025. This extension provides states and farmers with additional time to finalize their solar infrastructure. The program aims to generate 34,800 MW of solar power, backed by a total Central Financial Assistance (CFA) allocation of ₹34,422 crore. Furthermore, the upcoming PM-KUSUM 2.0 initiative aims to integrate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to capture daytime solar energy for use during peak evening hours.
