Punjab state authorities are now accepting online registrations and application forms for the 2026 SC Post Matric Scholarship Scheme via the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Portal (scholarships.punjab.gov.in). Upon introducing this initiative for Scheduled Caste scholars, the Chief Minister criticized the central government for allegedly abandoning SC students by discontinuing the national post-matric scholarship program. This state-led initiative aims to empower students from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they have the necessary financial support to pursue higher education, a path previously hindered by the central government's withdrawal of funding.

The Punjab government has been actively restructuring the SC Post Matric Scholarship program to prevent any student from missing out on higher learning opportunities. Furthermore, the CM reaffirmed the administration's commitment to generating 100,000 government jobs over the coming 18 months, with a target of filling 50,000 positions by March 2023 and the remainder by the end of the current term.

This initiative aims to provide vital financial aid to Scheduled Caste students pursuing post-secondary education, ensuring they can complete their studies without financial burden. Freeship Card under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC Students

Students from Punjab studying in other states are also eligible to apply for this scholarship online. Please note that offline applications will not be processed. The program adheres to Government of India guidelines. The portal at scholarships.punjab.gov.in is currently active for both new and renewal registrations. All SC students are required to register for a FREESHIP CARD. Furthermore, the portal is open for educational institutions and relevant departments to register.

The Freeship Card system was implemented to simplify the admission process for students at various colleges and universities. Possessing a Freeship Card qualifies students for enrollment without immediate financial hurdles. Previously, SC students often faced challenges during admission; now, institutions are instructed to process and forward all applications for eligible SC and Backward Class (BC) students promptly.
