The CCEA, Central government, has sanctioned the Centrally Sponsored Scheme known as the Restructured Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan 2026. This revamped RGSA program aims to enhance the governance capabilities of 2.55 lakh Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to facilitate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The government is rolling out this initiative from April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2022, with a total budget allocation of Rs. 7,255.50 crore.
Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan prioritizes local governance to ensure the efficient use of available resources. The scheme is specifically tailored to align with Mission Antyodaya for Gram Panchayats and 116 aspirational districts as designated by NITI Aayog.
Gram Panchayats serve as the primary grassroots institutions, representing SC, ST, and women populations. Strengthening these bodies will foster growth for marginalized communities while promoting equity, inclusion, and overall socio-economic progress.

The total financial outlay for the Restructured RGSA 2026, as determined by the central government, is Rs. 7,255.50 crore over a four-year period.
