The PM Shadi Shagun Yojana (शादी शगुन योजना) is a newly introduced centrally-funded initiative sanctioned by the central cabinet. Through this scheme, Muslim women who have attained a graduation degree are eligible to receive a wedding gift of up to Rs. 51,000. To qualify for these benefits, Muslim women must have successfully completed their undergraduate studies in any field prior to their marriage.

This initiative was proposed to the government by the Maulana Azad Education Foundation and has received official approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs. The program is designed to promote higher education among minority groups. By launching this scheme, the Narendra Modi administration aims to encourage young women, particularly within the Muslim community, to pursue advanced academic qualifications.

Many young women in minority groups face barriers to completing their education and are often married before reaching the age of 18. Recognizing the importance of academic advancement for Muslim women, the central government, acting on the advice of the MAEF, has established the Shadi Shagun Yojana.

Shadi Shagun Yojana for Rs. 51,000

The primary goal of the Shadi Shagun Yojana is to incentivize higher education among girls from minority backgrounds. While educational attainment among Muslim women has historically been low, this collaborative effort between the MAEF and the central government seeks to improve these outcomes. Recipients of the Begum Hazrat Mahal Scholarship are now entitled to receive Rs. 51,000 upon their marriage through this scheme.

This initiative serves as an additional benefit integrated into the existing Begum Hazrat Mahal Scholarship program, which supports meritorious female students from six notified minority groups: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis.
