The Jharkhand administration is currently operating the Sona Sobran Dhoti Saree Scheme 2026, with plans to provide clothing to 6 million families throughout 2024-2025. Under this initiative, the state will supply one saree and one lungi or dhoti to 6 million households living below the poverty line. These essential garments are provided twice annually to eligible families for a nominal fee of just Rs. 10 per item.

The Sona Sobran Dhoti Saree initiative was originally launched in 2014 by the UPA government under Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Although it was paused in 2015 by the subsequent Raghubar Das administration, the Jharkhand cabinet has since revived the proposal. In this guide, we provide comprehensive details regarding the Sona Sobran Saree and Dhoti distribution program.

Jharkhand Sona Sobran Dhoti Saree Yojana 2026

The state aims to support 6 million families through this clothing distribution initiative, offering sarees, dhotis, and lungis to ration card holders for only ₹10.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) committed to restarting this scheme during their election campaign. Following their victory, the cabinet led by CM Hemant Soren approved the program. Moving forward, the scheme will be expanded to include families covered by the National Food Security Act (NFSA) via local PDS outlets. A budget of Rs. 200 crore has been allocated for this purpose in the current fiscal year.
