Launch of the Swanirbhar Naari Portal
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inaugurated the online registration and login facility for the Swanirbhar Naari portal at https://swanirbharnaari.assam.gov.in/. The state government intends to buy handloom goods straight from local weavers using this web-based system. On social media, the CM stated, "I am pleased to introduce 'Swanirbhar Naari,' a project aimed at empowering our local weavers. The government will now source handloom items directly from them via this online portal." He emphasized that the move is crucial for safeguarding the state's textile heritage.
"I am confident that this scheme will help sustain our rich handloom legacy by guaranteeing a steady income for our weavers," remarked Sarma. The Chief Minister also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appreciation for the Assamese "gamosa." He encouraged the Handloom and Textiles department to increase public awareness regarding the gamosa. "The PM's admiration for the Assamese gamosa has boosted its national profile. I urge the department to leverage this momentum and promote the use of authentic, hand-woven gamosas," he added.
