The central government introduced UMANG (Unified Mobile App for New-age Governance) to simplify public access to government digital services. Officially unveiled by Prime Minister Modi during the fifth Global Conference on Cyberspace in New Delhi, the platform has grown significantly. As of June 1, 2021, the UMANG app hosts over 20,880 services spanning 250 central and state government departments.
The UMANG app is designed to prioritize a 'mobile-first' approach to e-governance. Developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), it serves as a comprehensive gateway for Indian citizens. It aggregates e-government services from central, state, and local agencies, making them accessible via mobile apps, websites, SMS, and IVR systems.
