Yogi Good Samaritan Initiative: The Uttar Pradesh administration is preparing to introduce the UP Good Samaritan Program 2026. Under this policy, individuals who transport victims of road or rail accidents to medical facilities will be rewarded with an incentive of Rs. 2,000. The primary objective of the Yogi Adityanath Good Samaritan project is to ensure that every injured person receives prompt medical attention, while also motivating citizens to support those involved in road mishaps.
This initiative by the UP government follows the tragic Mainpuri bus accident, where 17 lives were lost after the driver lost control. A final resolution regarding the Yogi Good Samaritan Program 2026 is currently pending. The Road Safety Council is actively working on strategies to encourage public participation in aiding accident survivors.
UP Good Samaritan Program 2026
Following a rise in road accidents across the state, the Yogi Adityanath government is developing a policy to offer financial rewards to helpful citizens. Anyone who steps forward to transport injured individuals to hospitals will be eligible for a Rs. 2,000 reward. The proposal has been submitted, and the program is anticipated to commence within the next two to three months.
While the state previously established a policy in January 2016 to safeguard Good Samaritans, it proved insufficient. This new cash incentive aims to reduce accident-related fatalities by ensuring victims receive care during the critical "golden hour" immediately following an incident.
Individuals who assist victims are already protected from legal harassment, police interrogation, and hospital-related complications under existing Good Samaritan laws, which were implemented by the central government following a 2014 Supreme Court mandate.
Yogi Adityanath to Launch UP Good Samaritan Program
States like Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have already implemented similar Good Samaritan policies. Since each state follows a unique procedure for distributing incentives, the UP government is currently finalizing its operational guidelines. The state plans to allocate Rs. 50 lakh to fund this initiative.
The funding will be sourced from the Road Safety Fund rather than the general state budget. Although Uttar Pradesh records fewer accidents than some other regions, it faces a high fatality rate, largely because bystanders often hesitate to assist, leaving victims without timely medical care. This program is designed to inspire more people to act and save lives.
